LJ Mounteney
LJ Mounteney is a Vancouver singer, songwriter who has been gaining international and national notice for her sophomore blues and roots album, Mama Danced.
Recorded under the careful eye of veteran powerhouse producer Jack Lavin, founder of Powder Blues Band, one Canada’s greatest blues bands, the album showcases top-notch BC and Alberta musicians including recently Juno nominated artist Brandon Isaak. The pair duet on Isaak’s song "Take My Message", currently the highest Spotify-streamed song on the album.
Notably, the album features eight Canadian original compositions, with two co-writes by Mounteney, along with five carefully curated covers. Mounteney has been presented by the Rogue Folk Club, the Fraser Valley Blues Society, the Victoria Blues Society and most recently the Haida Gwaii Arts Council. For the Fraser Valley Blues Society, Founder and President Cora Price invited Mounteney to perform as one of the few local female-led blues groups to highlight International Women’s day and Mounteney performed to a sold out crowd at Vancouer’s top tier jazz club Frankie’s Jazz.
Mounteney has dazzled audiences with her wit, artistry, and impressive vocal mastery and has developed a healthy following in her Vancouver locale. Drawing inspiration from old school R&B and blues artists such as Etta James, Irma Thomas, Tina Turner and more, Mounteney is often compared to artists such as Susan Tedechi and Bonnie Raitt, Mounteney has a pleasing, rich voice and a commanding stage presence.
“I try to have as much fun as I can onstage while playing with the best musicians Vancouver has to offer!” she says.
